The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a critical travel advisory to motorists traversing the Tana River bridge amid escalating flood waters.
KeNHA has alerted the public that heavy rainfall across the country has significantly increased the likelihood of further flooding the bridge.
The Authority has pinpointed the Seven Forks Dams as nearing their maximum capacity, intensifying the peril.
“Currently, a section of the A3 Road at Mororo has been compromised, with one lane already affected,” KeNHA revealed, underlining the immediacy of the situation.
“As the rains persist and the Dam reaches its limits, the water levels are expected to rise, exacerbating damage to the road infrastructure and posing significant safety hazards to motorists and pedestrians,” cautioned KeNHA.
KeNHA has assured that its contractors are stationed at the site, fully equipped to tackle any potential washouts once the floodwaters subside. However, the gravity of the situation demands immediate attention and caution.
“Motorists are urged to exercise vigilance, adhere to safety guidelines, and cooperate with authorities to mitigate the impact of the ongoing flooding,” stressed the Authority.
KeNHA has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the well-being of all road users and pledged to closely monitor the situation, providing updates and advisories accordingly.
