American-based Nigerian artist Davido has directed his legal team to sue K24 over an April Fool’s prank. On April 1, K24 published a post alleging Davido was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after cocaine worth Sh18M was supposedly discovered on his private jet.
At the time of the post, Davido, who had just completed performing at RahaFest in Nairobi assured his fans, “These reports are entirely untrue. I successfully completed my scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya and have since returned home to Nigeria,”
Davido expressed his displeasure with the story.
“I find the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of ‘April Fools’, and my lawyer is seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating this misinformation.”
He stated.

Davido further clarified he has never been arrested for any crime in Nigeria, America, or any other country he has visited.
“I’d also like to note that I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world. Not my home Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I’ve made home throughout my career.” he asserted.
The allegations tarnished Davido’s name and brand, leading to Davido receiving numerous calls from concerned people seeking clarification over the arrest.
In response to the uproar, K24 maintained that the prank was part of its April Fools’ Day content, stating, “Were you fooled?“
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intervened, flagging the viral article published by K24.
K24 is yet to publicly address the scandal. And it remains unclear whether the Mediamax-owned channel has reached out to Davido to resolve the issue.
