Coast-based Chef Maliha Mohammed, faced disappointment as she was disqualified from the Guinness World Record attempt for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Expressing her sorrow on social media, Maliha, whose announced, “It is with much sadness to inform my family, friends, fans, sponsors, followers, and everyone who showed love and support towards my journey in the November cooking marathon.”

Chef Maliha Mohammed revealed her disqualification was due to a single error made during her rest break.

Guinness World Records (GWR) clarified that Maliha’s disqualification stemmed from additional minutes taken during her rest break, which were not accumulated as per guidelines.

Upon my manager’s advice, I have to let you know I was disqualified for one error made during my rest break. I am not okay right now. And I ask for your forgiveness to have let you all down. It was not easy.” She wrote.

Despite her accomplishment of enduring 150 hours in the kitchen, surpassing her previous record, official recognition eluded her.

“To those who were waiting for this record, I am truly sorry,” Maliha expressed.


In November 2023, she attempted to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. This marked her second attempt at breaking a GWR record. Previously, in 2019, she achieved the record for the longest cooking marathon at the Kenya Bay Beach Resort in Mombasa.

During her latest feat, Chef Maliha Mohammed prepared 400 dishes, ranging from traditional Swahili foods to international cuisines.
