When Mugithi singer Kareh B learned from a Parents’ WhatsApp group that Chavakali Boys High School students would be dispatched for the April holidays on a late-night bus, she was uncomfortable, but other parents agreed.

Little did she know her son Joseph Mwadulo, 17, would be the sole fatality when the Easy Coach bus they were traveling in on overturned at the Mamboleo Junction in Kisumu at 9 pm, on Monday 1.

Despite seeing a post about the accident, Kareh B brushed it off, worn out by the rising number of student accidents.

As dawn broke, the school’s WhatsApp platform flooded with messages about the incident.

While other parents confirmed their sons’ safe returns home, panic set in as Kareh B realized her son had not come home.

Desperate for information, she learned that all survivors were given phones to contact their families. The school later confirmed her worst fears: her son had not survived the crash.

The aspiring pilot’s body lay at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital mortuary.

In her sorrow, Kareh B is demanding answers about her son’s death.

She questioned the school administration’s silence. The musician expressed disappointment that, despite being a parent for four years, the school has not reached out to offer condolences.

“I am falling apart. I have been a parent at Chavakali Boys for the past four years, and no one has called to inform me of my son’s death or, better still, condole with me. You even had to bribe someone with 30K! Is my son worth 30K? Chavakali Boys, when are you planning to communicate?”

She wrote on Facebook.

Kareh B also directed questions at the Education and Transport Ministers, asking why minors were allowed to travel at night and if proper safety measures were in place.

“Education Minister: Who permitted minors to travel at night?

Transport & Roads Minister: Was the whole traffic Marshall asleep that no one noticed minors traveling at night?”

She has urged the government to take action to prevent further tragedies and protect the younger generation from road accidents.

“Government, what is your take on this issue? Are you going to continue being silent and lose more children on the roads? What measures are you putting in place to curb the accidents affecting the young generation? Do we need to resurrect Michuki? I need answers. Go well, my son.”
