An autopsy report conducted on the body of NTV journalist Rita Tinina has revealed that she succumbed to severe pneumonia. Rita Tinina, who worked as an Output Producer for Broadcast platforms at the Nation Media Group, was discovered lifeless in her residence at Brooklyn Springs Apartments in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, on Sunday, March 19.
The autopsy was conducted by government pathologist Dr. Peter Ndegwa in the presence of the family pathologist, Dr. Michaka at Umash Funeral Home.
The family spokesperson Timothy Njaga expressed the family’s acceptance of the autopsy results. He said, “We have been told that Rita died of severe pneumonia and we are satisfied with the results.”
Njaga emphasized the family’s plea for privacy as they navigate through the grieving process. He reiterated, “We should remember that there is a family that is affected,”
Rita Tinina Dead
Rita Tinina failed to show up for work at NTV where she was scheduled for the 1 pm bulletin on that fateful Sunday, which was unusual for her. This raised concerns among her colleagues whose immediate action, resulted in the discovery of her lifeless body at her residence.
According to the police report filed by her sister, Rita Tinina’s health history shows she suffered from epilepsy and has a fever for five days before her death.
Rita is survived by an eight year old daughter named Mia Malaika.

The journalist, known for her dedication and professionalism, has left an indelible mark on the media landscape, having served in the industry for over two decades at NTV and KTN.
President William Ruto extended his condolences to Rita Tinina’s family, acknowledging her significant contributions to television journalism in the country. He stated, “My sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Rita Tinina – a pioneer and a trailblazer in TV journalism. Rest in peace, Rita,”
The Kenya Editors’ Guild also paid tribute to Tinina, recognizing her exemplary career and lasting impact on the media sphere. Zubeidah Kananu, the Editors Guild president remarked, “The Kenya Editors’ Guild is deeply saddened by the passing of Rita Tinina, a distinguished television journalist in Kenya. Until her untimely demise, Rita served as an Output Producer at NTV, showcasing her talent and dedication in the field,”
