Esther Arunga’s fall from grace reads like a well-written novel with plot twists that only a few authors could conceive.
In 2009, the beautiful Esther Arunga was well on her way as a popular KTN journalist and lawyer, having studied law at the University of Wollongong, Australia, and the Kenya School of Law. She also hails from an influential family. Her father, Dr. Robert ‘Bob’ Arunga, serves as the Technical University of Mombasa chairman, and on the board of ODM Party.
However, all changed when Esther Arunga rebelliously left the SDA church in which she was raised to join Josph Hellon’s Finger of God church.
She even moved out of her parents’ palatial Kileleshwa and into a Runda 8-bedroom apartment that housed Hellon’s church.
In 2010, Esther Arunga and Joseph Hellon announced their bid for the presidency through the PlaCenta party (Platinum Centralizer and Unionist Party) of Kenya. And then Esther Arunga resigned from KTN to focus on politics.
Esther Arunga in a Love Triangle
Initially, Esther Arunga was engaged to Wilson Malaba, CEO of Real Concepts. They met at christian forum, and a lovestruck Malaba joined Hellon’s church to win her over.
However, dubious personality Quincy Timberlake took a liking to Esther Arunga. Not even his wife and mother of three boys, Rose Mueni, was going to stop him from being with his soulmate, Esther Arunga.
Driven by his feelings for Esther Arunga, Quincy Timberlake got in touch with his old Kokuro Primary schoolmate Joseph Hellon after seeing him on Tusker Project Fame as a saxophonist. He lied about Hellon being nominated for an Oscar, which is only for actors.
Timberlake, known for his lies and big words, also lied about having connections with former US President Barrack Obama, and arranging an interview with CNN’s Larry King in Nairobi. He made up a story about meeting Benny Hinn while studying for a master’s degree in a made-up subject called “Endopology” in the US. But he had never left South Africa at that time.
As a PlaCenta founder and Langata parliamentary hopeful, Timberlake promised to use “political revaputure” to help Kenyans, a term that does not exist.
All these lies led to his biggest deceit: pretending to be televangelist Benny Hinn, he emailed Hellon, telling him to advise Esther to break off her engagement with Malaba. Esther followed this advice and called off the engagement.
Soon thereafter, Quincy Timberlake swooped in and swept Esther Arunga off her feet.
Esther Arunga and Quincy Timberlake Marriage
Unapproving parents tried to separate the couple. First, Hellon’s church was arrested on suspicion of illegal operations, except it had been registered five years before. While the others were released after 2 days, Esther was taken to a psychiatric hospital and held for five days. Upon her release, she sued her parents for Ksh 300 million for holding her against her will.
Quincy Timberlake was however rearrested and charged with illegally being in Kenya. Except he was a Luo man born Quincy Wambitta in Kisumu in 1980, whose only ill was adopting a fake name complete with singing in a band. He remained in prison for months and was reportedly tortured.
Esther Arunga claimed her parents had Quincy Timberlake arrested because they wanted her to marry a cabinet minister. Defiantly, on March 3, Esther Arunga married Timberlake while he was in prison.
Subsequenty, Quincy Timberlake was released. Feeling unsafe, the Timberlakes sought asylum and left Kenya. They traveled via Dubai and eventually settled in Australia. Esther Arunga got a job as a barrister at the New South Wales Supreme Court Australian law firm. And Quincy Timberlake enrolled in school to study mining.
Esther Arunga’s son Dead
Esther Arunga and Quincy Timberlake settled in Australia, and had two sons. Tragically, on June 18, 2014, the police were summoned to their home due to their firstborn, Sinclair, being unresponsive. The couple claimed Sinclair had fallen down the staircase.
However, a medical examination revealed that Sinclair died from “severe blunt force trauma, like punching or stomping,” inconsistent with injuries sustained from a fall.
Quincy Timberlake Charged
Quincy Timberlake would later be arrested for violence against his wife and children and committed to an institution. This is when Esther Arunga revealed that her husband, Quincy Timberlake, had hit the child on the stomach and hurled him against the wall, claiming, “there’s a devil in his (Sinclair’s) stomach, I have to get it out.” Esther Arunga admitted that she had lied to protect Timberlake.
Witnesses corroborated these disturbing details, with one mentioning seeing cuts on Sinclair’s forehead, possibly knife cuts Quincy Timberlake inflicted to expel demons. Another witness, Gertrude Marutawana, observed seeing scars on Sinclair’s back when he visited the Timberlakes.’
Quincy Timberlake worked with the police, accepted a plea deal for manslaughter, and received an 11-year jail sentence. With good behavior, he is expected to serve only 9 years.
Esther Arunga was found guilty as an accessory to the murder and was handed a ten months non-custodial sentence.
Epilogue
Esther Arunga has since changed her name to Chryslertte Provydence Timberlake and continues to work in Australia.
Wilson Malaba has since moved on and in 2013, he married a former model. He also admitted that marrying Ether Arunga would have been a grave mistake as they had a disconnect.
Joseph Hellon changed his church’s name from ‘Finger of God’ to ‘Kingdom Embassy International.’ He still harbours presidential aspirations.
