June Chebet Moi, the daughter of Kenya’s second President Daniel Arap Moi, has passed away at the age of 60. The family confirmed her death on Thursday, April 11, 2024. The cause of her death has not been disclosed. And the family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing on of our beloved, June Chebet Moi, this morning. At this time of grief, we request your prayers and privacy as we the family come to terms with the tragic loss of our sister. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” the family statement read.
June Chebet was the adopted daughter of the former president and was the last born among his eight children. Her siblings include: Gideon Moi, John Mark Moi, Philip Moi, Jonathan Toroitich, Raymond Moi, Doris Moi, and Jeniffer Jemutai Kositany.
She was raised as part of the Moi family and received her education at Nairobi Primary, Kenya High School, and later pursued her studies at a university in Canada. Throughout her life, she excelled as a successful businesswoman.
Condolences poured in from various leaders, including President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja. President Ruto expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Moi family and prayed for strength during this challenging time.
“My heartfelt condolences to the family of the late President Daniel Arap Moi over the loss of June Chebet Moi. May God give you strength at this difficult time. Rest In Peace, June,” President Ruto conveyed.
Governor Sakaja also extended his sympathy to the Moi family, particularly to Gideon Moi, expressing his wishes for strength and comfort.
“Gideon Moi, pole sana to you and the wider family on the loss of your sister June. May God grant you strength and comfort. Poleni,” Governor Sakaja wrote.
The passing of June Chebet Moi marks a significant loss for the Moi family and the nation as a whole. May she rest in peace.
