Popular DJ Joe Mfalme, real name Joseph Mwenda, and three police officers have been arrested over the death of Kabete Police Station Deputy DCI Officer Felix Kelian Kitosi.
The senior officer’s death stemmed from an altercation that occurred on March 16, 2024.
On the fateful night, DJ Joe Mfalme and his team finished their gig at Texas Barbeque in Kikuyu Market. And as they were leaving around 4:20 am, a dispute arose when DCIO Felix Kelian Kitosi allegedly rear-ended DJ Joe Mfalme’s car, causing a scratch.
Things escalated quickly, with DJ Joe Mfalme, alongside his bouncer, driver, and photographer, reportedly pulling the DCI officer from his car and beating him.
Officers from Kikuyu Police Station de-escalated the situation. And they took the injured officer into custody, where he allegedly faced further assault. And the DJ left without recording a statement.
While in custody, the senior police officer complained of abdominal pain, and his condition worsened. He was rushed to Lang’ata Hospital and later transferred to Nairobi West Hospital, where he died six days later, on Friday, March 22.
Kelian’s medical report showed injuries to his bladder, and upon arrival at the hospital, he was unable to pass urine for approximately four hours. The cause of his death was blunt trauma to his abdomen.
His body was transferred to Umash Funeral Home.
DJ Joe Mfalme Arrested
DJ Joe Mfalme and his team were arrested on the night of Saturday, March 23.
The three officers who attended the matter – Sammy Rotich Cherono, Khadija Abdi Wako and Agnes Kerubo Mugo were also arrested and will be arraigned in Court later today.
Police are also looking for more suspects, including a woman who was reportedly at the scene.
DJ Joe Mfalme Speaks
On Sunday March 24, DJ Joe Mfalme issued a statement conveying that he and his team was cooperating with authorities since the incident.
He described the death of DCIO Felix Kelian Kitosi as regrettable as he offered his condolences to the senior officer’s friends and family.
“We express our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and all those impacted by this unfortunate incident. DJ Joe Mfalme and his team have been in close collaboration with the investigative agencies since the occurrence of the incident,”
