Lawreen Shiyenzi, who held the titles of Miss County Kakamega and Miss People’s Choice 2023, has been dethroned and her contract terminated by the Miss County National Beauty Contest. The decision stems from allegations of the model‘s involvement in the production of adult videos. The organizers, in a widely circulated notice deemed Ms. Shiyenzi’s actions contrary to the values and reputation of the award scheme.
“We write to inform you that, you as Miss County-Kakamega and Miss County-People’s Choice Kenya 2023, have not lived up to the image and reputation of our brand as a representative,”
The letter stated.
The organizers expressed disappointment that Ms. Lawreen Shiyenzi failed to uphold the image expected of a representative of their brand. The letter cited videos from supporters depicting her engagement in inappropriate activities for financial gain online. It stated, “We have received so many Pornographic Video material from our supporters showing you participating in pornography for financial gain.“

Miss Kakamega County Dethroned
The beauty queen lost both titles immediately upon the revelation as the organizers of Ms. County Beauty Contest instructed her to surrender her crown, two sashes, and reimburse the Ksh 100,000 cash prize. Failure to comply would result in a Ksh 5.4 million lawsuit against her.
“Failure for you to comply, we shall move to court and seek damages of KSh 5.4 million, used as our expenses to organize the Beauty Pageant,” the letter continued.”
The notice read.
Threats to Sue
The organizers stated their intention to pursue criminal charges against her with the Director of Criminal Investigations, stating “We intend to file criminal charges with the DCI because in Kenya, pornography is against the law.”
Ms. Lawreen Shiyenzi potentially faces severe penalties for her alleged actions, including a 25-year jail term, a Ksh 20 million fine, or both.
“The films and stage plays Act outlaws the creation broadcasting procession distribution and exhibition of pornography and it is punishable by a 25 year jail term, a Ksh 20 million fine or both.“
The letter stated.
