Kelvin Kiptum’s alleged babymama Edna Awuor has opened up on her relationship with the deceased athlete. In an interview with Eldoret Online TV, Edna disclosed that she initially met Kelvin Kiptum in 2018, and their romantic involvement began a year later. She further revealed that she became pregnant in 2021 while in form three.
“Kelvin Kiptum and I met in 2018, and we got into a relationship in 2019 and we lived together till I got pregnant in 2021 when I was in form three.“
Edna Awuor explained.
The mother of one stated that she knew Kelvin Kiptum even before he was a star, stating, “I knew Kelvin Kiptum way before he was a star, and before he started his running career.“
Edna Awuor added that they stayed together until the August 2023 Chicago marathon when Kelvin Kiptum moved to a larger place.
“We stayed together when he went to Valencia and London. He lived with us until he went for the Chicago marathon and shifted to a larger place.”
She stated.
When asked why she did not move in with Kelvin Kiptum, Edna Awuor answered, “I chose to remain at home so that my mom could help me take care of the child.”
Parents Meeting
Edna Awuor disclosed that her parents and Kelvin Kiptum’s parents met when she lived with Kelvin during her form three. Upon discovering her living situation, her parents contacted Kiptum’s parents, leading to a conversation.
“Our parents were acquainted because when I was in form three, there is a time I went to live with Kelvin Kiptum in Eldoret. My parents who thought I ran away discovered us living together. In response, they contacted his parents, and a conversation ensued.“
She said.
The 22-year-old confirmed that Kelvin Kiptum’s parents recognized her as the mother of his child saying, “His parents acknowledged me and were aware that I had his child.”
Friends with the Wife
Edna Awuor admitted that she was aware of Kelvin Kiptum’s wife and family. She also noted that she was friends with Kiptum’s wife, Asenath Rotich, who would reach out to inquire about Kiptum’s whereabouts when he was unreachable by phone.
“I was aware that he had a family, and his wife knew about me and our child with Kelvin. His wife and I were friendly and communicated through WhatsApp. She often asked about his whereabouts and called me if he was not reachable by phone,” revealed Edna Awuor.”
Edna revealed.
She also said that Kelvin Kiptum talked of marriage ever since they met and throughout their relationship. She, however found out that Kelvin Kiptum was probably talking to multiple females after TikToker Jeylaa Jeylaa alleged a relationship with the late athlete.
“Initially, I did not know Kelvin Kiptum was involved with other ladies, but when I saw Jeylaa Jeylaa on TikTok, that is when I knew we were probably many.”
Edna Awuor said.
Going to Court
The mother-of-one went to court under the advice of her uncles, seeking a DNA test to establish Kelvin as the child’s father. The decision aimed to preempt potential public skepticism, considering that many might not readily believe her claim without conclusive evidence.
“I requested the court for a DNA test to prove Kelvin as the child’s father and avoid public backlash, as many wouldn’t believe me. My uncles advised me to go to court.“
She said.
Edna added that she had no ill-will towards Kiptum’s family by going to court, only that “All I want is to know is whether his family will assist my child growing up and with her education.”
The family of Kelvin Kiptum did not recognize Edna Awuor during Kiptum’s burial. And she has not yet spoken to his family. She explained, “I have been hesitant to approach them, as I received a lot of hate from Kenyans online after going to court.”
Kelvin Kiptum and Daughter
Edna Awuor spoke on Kelvin Kiptum’s last moments with their daughter, stating, “The week before his death, he came and picked up the child, taking her to the local shopping center. They shared a cup of tea, and he returned her when she was asleep.”
The short-haired lady hopes that her daughter Adriel Cherop Kiptum, who closely resembles the fallen athlete will one day break her father’s record.
“Adriel Cherop Kiptum resembles Kelvin Kiptum, and I hope that she will take after her father to become an athlete who will break his records. Then Kenyans will know that I was telling the truth.”
A hopeful Edna remarked.
