Lang’ata Member of Parliament, Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has found himself at the center of controversy after being accused of conning a Nairobi-based author of KSh 40,000. Daniel Musau Muli alleged that he paid Jalang’o for the promotion of his book on the MP’s YouTube channel, only to be left disappointed.

According to Muli, the agreement stipulated that Jalang’o would run promotional adverts for four days and conduct a live pre-launch interview. However, Jalang’o failed to appear for the interview, sending a subordinate instead. This led Muli to demand a refund, claiming breach of contract.

Jalang’o Responds

In response, Jalang’o took to social media to address the allegations. He clarified that the complainant was aware that he no longer conducted interviews personally. Instead, his subordinate conducted the interview, which reportedly did not meet the author’s expectations.

Jalang’o stated, “A guy comes for interview, he is told I don’t do interviews anymore and that I am busy, agrees to be hosted by the host, later comes and says the interview did not do well, wants his money back, he is refunded 50% now claims he was conned.”

Regarding the author’s accusations of being conned, Jalang’o challenged Muli to provide evidence of the transaction, suggesting that it might be a strategy to boost book sales. He urged Muli to share the book link instead, expressing confidence that it could lead to increased sales.

Jalang’o emphasized, “As a company we can afford but we have company policies… we will not pay. Then ask him to share with you M-Pesa message where he sent me money. But I think this is his best sale strategy, let him share the book link, maybe he will sell copies.
