Radio personality Mwalimu Rachel told Mic Cheque Podcast that she received death threats after falling out with the Gengetone music group, Sailors Gang. The radio queen managed the Sailors Gang under MRX (Mwalimu Rachel Experience) company from 2019 to 2020. And she credits the meteoric rise of Sailors to her influence and support, saying, “Sailors rose fast thanks to my backing. I could approach other media outlets to play their music since am well known.”
But in October 2020, the group severed ties with MRX management team and signed with ‘Black Market Records’ (BMR). According to Mwalimu Rachel, this was a breach of contract and a bad move altogether. She said, “A record label went behind our backs to one of the members, Peter Miracle Baby, they lied to him with wild dreams, stipends, allowances which unfortunately Peter fell for and signed the deal,”
On the other hand, Sailors accused Mwalimu Rachel of denying the group access to their music channels with millions of views. Mwalimu Rachel explained that the account password was not her personal property to give, but company asset.
“We put up structures for this group to thrive, for music distribution and networking. And they just expected to be handed the YouTube channel logins There is no way because those are company assets.”
The Radio personality expressed.
The fallout included safety concerns for Mwalimu Rachel, who recounted receiving death threats directed at her and her son. The situation was so bad that the mother of one had to relocate and change her son’s school. Mwalimu Rachel said, “I received death threats- me and my son. We were forced to move houses and I had to move my son out of his school, to get a fresh start.“
Mwalimu Rachel Receives Hate
Mwalimu Rachel also faced a smear campaign. She alleged that influencers were paid to destroy her reputation. She, however, chose not to address the naysayers because she had a lot to lose. However, the smear campaign did cost her a lot of business, affecting her till date.
“I remained silent because as a big brand i had much more to lose. And I lost a lot of business and big brand deals. Even today some brands are hesitant to work with me.”
She said.
Additionally, there were personal attacks on Mwalimu Rachel, including accusations of assaulting Peter Miracle Baby’s friend by pressing his balls, beating him up, and removing some dreadlock strands. Mwalimu Rachel considers this the darkest period of her life and denies the assault, claiming the group aimed to extort millions from her.
“I did not press his balls, we went to court and it was squashed. Their gaenda was to extort money from me to the tune of millions.”
She expressed.
Reconciliation is Hard
Reconciliation with Sailors has been hard for the radio personality as she felt “the lying was bad and so was the smear campaign when (Sailors) apologized in secret.”
Despite the challenges, Mwalimu Rachel has moved on and advised Sailors to resume their music careers, as “they are talented.”
