Actress Joyce Maina has responded to her ex-partner Tony Kwalanda’s recent statements on their breakup. The unlikely pair broke up in 2021. Despite matching outfits, plans to move in together, and meeting each other’s parents.

Joyce Maina, the girl my heart loved deeply, you know, we met in a very funny way. But there came a time when my heart told me to just love her, so I decided to open up my heart, and we started dating until it reached a point. We even went to look for a house where we would live together. Her parents also knew about us, and they knew we were a couple.

Tony Kwalanda told TV47.

Joyce Maina and Tony Kwalanda’s relationship included a fake engagement, to boot. You see, Tony Kwalanda told TV47, that he never proposed to Joyce Maina during Switch TV’s second year anniversary as previously hinted, and that he was the one to end things.

“I have never engaged Joyce Maina. Technically, I dumped her Joyce really was in it (the relationship)”

He added.

Tony Kwalanda also attributed their failed relationship due to cultural differences, specifically child naming. You see, Kwalanda is a Luhya from Malaba and in his tradition, the men name the children. This differs from Joyce Maina’s Kikuyu culture, where she, as the one carrying the pregnancy, was opposed to this practice.

But there are things, maybe I was childish or not, but that’s me. There are several things that, in our cultural traditions at home, are emphasized a lot, but people like Joyce may not have prioritized. One day, we were sitting in the car in the basement parking lot, asking each other questions about naming a child. Joyce said, ‘For my first child, I want to name them this, for the second, the third…’ I just listened, then told her, ‘You know, in our culture in Malaba, we men are the ones who name the children.’ Joyce said, ‘I’m the carrier, meaning you impregnate me and then you say you will name, I will name them my way, whether you like it or not.'”

In response to her ex’s comments, Joyce Maina admitted to making regrettable decisions and allowing “a lot of rubbish” into her life during the 2019- 2022 period.

“The Joyce of 2019-2022 did some very stupid things. She let a lot of rubbish into her life. I should have done better.”

She said.

She acknowledged that had she been a different person, she would have totally judged herself.

“There is something I am trying to get across. I am at a phase of my life where I would 100% judge my past self.”

The TV girl stated.

Joyce Maina also questioned her past choice in men, expressing “I am at a phase where I can look back and think, who was that?”

While admitting that she “should have done better,” Joyce Maina expressed that she has changed and now feels like a “completely new person.” She is presently extending “grace and forgiveness” to herself, as she learns from the mistakes of her past

“I needed the old version of myself to learn lessons and become better, stronger, and wiser in the present.”

While Tony perceived the child naming differences with Joyce Miana as a redflag, he understood the situation, as it boils down to their different upbringings. Except that it was not the only issue.

“I understood her because of how she was raised and where she comes from; I knew we would face challenges here. It was one of the main reasons, as the name alone could cause issues, but there might be another reason. It’s a red flag.”

Tony Kwalanda expressed.

Another problem Tony Kwalanda had wasJoyce Maina mentioning that he would be the one to cook when she became pregnant. Although he loves to cook, he expressed discomfort with being told or reminded.

“I saw that if we continued, we would encounter problems. I felt like the name was just one of the issues; there could be more underlying issues. Also, I heard her mentioning that when she falls pregnant, one day I should come home and cook for her. I know how to cook and can do it in marriage, but some men do not like being told or reminded.”

He added.
