An emergency meeting is underway at the Defence Council following the crash of a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) chopper in Kaben, Marakwet East.
Reportedly, the meeting was called to assess the situation and issue a statement to the nation regarding the chopper crash.
The Kenya Air Force Huey Helicopter crashed after taking off from a local primary school, carrying 12 people, including the Chief of Defense Forces Francis Ogolla crashed at the border between Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties.
Reports indicate that the chopper was carrying nine people when it went down.
Eyewitnesses reported the chopper bursting into flames upon crashing, with only one survivor believed to be a photographer.
Initially, police stated that five officers had died and three survived, while the area was cordoned off following the incident.
