Reports have it that renowned actress, Kate Actress, has issued a demand letter to TUKO extra over defamatory remarks made on their YouTube channel.
The show was discussing trending topics of the week. And Kate and Phil’s separation was one of them.
In the letter, Kate’s lawyer, Waithera Ngugi, said that the platform used its YouTube channel in the segment ‘Chat with Lilly‘. And one of the contributors on the show made defamatory remarks and/or statements concerning her client.
“The said statements were made in a public video by Hussein Yusuf. And in the presence of Lily Aisha and Victor Otengo, both employees of Tuko.co.Ke. With the intention of portraying our client as an immoral and unethical person,” the demand letter stated.
The remarks
Silva Kido, on the show said: “It is not about the money, Kate’s brand was well packaged by Phil…Kama mtu anapenda nje anapenda nje!’ He went ahead to hint that he knows that Kate is currently seeing a sitting Governor and was previously seeing a former Governor.
He then added, “Amekua soko the whole time! Huezikua kwa ndoa na unamisbehave, unakunywa pombe na kila mtu kwa business class uko kwa maofisi za gavana, unatafuta nini?” to which Lily answered, “She is building her brand!” And Silva retorted, “In the Governor’s office? Watu sio wajinga bana!”
Silva spoke in a mater-of-fact tone and appeared very emotional about the whole story.
The demand letter
Kate’s lawyer stated that the show’s clear intent was to destroy Kate’s long-standing career by dishonoring, humiliating, and tarnishing her well-established reputation.
“The defamatory statements were marred with falsehoods and distasteful statements that have caused emotional turmoil to our client and her family.”
Kate’s lawyer now wants the media company to issue a clear and definite public apology and retraction.
“An official statement of a clear and definite apology and retraction of the defamatory statements, to be copied to our client from Hussein Yusuf and pull down and/or permanently delete the defamatory YouTube video and other related threads,” the letter continued.
The demand letter says the company should comply within 14 days.
“We have firm and irrevocable instructions to promptly and swiftly, without any further reference to you whatsoever proceed to institute legal proceedings against you with the risk to you as to costs and other incidentals thereto.”
Tuko has been sued on several other occasions.
