Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago has responded to claims that the Director of Public Prosecutions has ordered his arrest.
According to reports, the DPP has ordered the arrest of Mandago and three others over Finland and Canada Overseas Education Programme where millions were allegedly lost.
The other officials are Joseph Kipkemoi Maritim, Meshak Rono and Joshua Kipkemoi Lelei.
This is after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution gave consent for the prosecution of the officials in the saga.
They are supposed to face charges of conspiracy to commit felony, stealing and abuse of office.
They are accused of conspiring to steal Sh1 billion from an account domiciled at the Kenya Commercial Bank in Eldoret registered under the Uasin Gishu Education Trust Fund meant for overseas university fees for students under Uasin Gishu County Overseas Education Programme.
The detectives handling the matter said they had tried to reach the wanted officials in vain.
Mandago responds
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, Mandago said he was ready to surrender to the police if required so.
There are rumours all over Eldoret Town that DCI Officers have been looking for me the whole night with the intention to arrest me on the Uasin Gishu Overseas Program.
He wrote.
He says that he has reached an agreement with parents and students who paid millions to the programme but never travelled abroad for education.
I wish to reiterate that as a law abiding citizen, I am available to present myself to any station once summoned. I have met with the leadership of parents demanding refunds and agreed on the way forward as per their press statement issued last evening.
