Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has reportedly been escorted out of Wanguru Police Station under tight police security to an unknown destination.
The arrest
Babu Owino was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and whisked to various destinations that are unknown to his family members.
Fridah seeks help
During the morning hours of Thursday, Babu’s wife, Fridah Ongili, shared a video online pleading for the release of her husband.
She made the statement after she was denied access to see her husband who had been moved to Wang’uru Police Station in Mwea.
‘My husband has done nothing else but fight for the rights of Kenyans and there is absolutely nothing that he did to warrant the arrest,” she stated.
Drama at Wanguru
Since morning, tension has been high as Owino’s family and lawyers demanded his release or arraignment after Tuesday’s arrest.
His wife Fridah Ongili said that she was allowed to see the lawmaker early Thursday morning and he looked weak and unwell.
He has not managed to eat anything and is physically weak. We are demanding his unconditional release because he has been detained without cause for over 24 hours,” she said.
Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru who accompanied the family was forcefully removed from the police station as he was kicked out by anti-riot police who were called in to eject them out of Wang’uru police station compound.
Officers kicked out the family members and locked them outside the gate as police cordoned off the gate.
