The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have launched investigations into the death of a 23-year-old Nairobi Technical Training student who allegedly jumped from a rooftop building in Kasarani.
Blair Muthomi is said to have taken his life on Friday, March 10, 2023, after allegedly falling from a six-storey building in Kasarani’s Mwiki area.
The incident occurred when Muthomi allegedly fell several feet from the rooftop of the building where he lived and landed head-first in a ditch at a nearby construction site.
According to his housemates who discovered his body, shortly after the fall, he notified the police who immediately came to the crime scene.
Speaking to NTV, James Macharia a foreman of the construction site where Muthomi fell said he was going to open the gate for workers to move materials to the rooftop of the building when one of Muthomi’s roommates followed him and looked concerned.
“Niliona kijana akinifuata akijaribu kuniongelesha lakini mimi sikuskia vile alikua anasema, wakati aliona sikua naskia alirudi nyuma akapiga kona, wakati niliona amepiga nilimfuata. Kumfuata ndipo nilimpata ana angalia mwili wa Muthomi, alikua anamshikashika mkono na tumbo,” said Macharia.
The police have since arrested and detained Muthomi’s roommates as persons of interest in the case.
According to pathologists, the engineering student died of injuries to the abdomen and chest that were consistent with the fall.
The deceased was set to graduate in a few weeks and had a promising future ahead of him. According to his family, he was a humble and hardworking son who had bright prospects.
This incident marks the second such investigation at the Kasarani police station in the last two weeks, following the death of interior designer Jeff Mwathi, who allegedly fell from the tenth floor of a building in Nairobi.
Six people, including renowned Kikuyu musician, DJ Fatxo, are being questioned in connection with Mwathi’s death
