Covid billionaires escaped because they were friends of the people who said they wanted to fight corruption, Deputy President, William Ruto now says.
Speaking after meeting with European Union Ambassadors, Ruto said that the individuals who gained wealth through plundering the covid-19 resources were friends with the same people who claimed to fight corruption.
“If the fight against corruption was left to the institutions, the Covid billionaires would have been behind bars by now,” said the DP.
The DP stated that the institutions meant to fight corruption were being undermined and denied resources to carry out their duties and were instead being weaponized against their political rivals.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. The failure to fight corruption is when you undermine the institutions. The Criminal Justice System by restricting their financial autonomy and by weaponizing the fight against corruption to be a fight against your political competitor,” he said.
The Deputy President also made it clear that the political party he was affiliated with, U.D.A has the largest number of female candidates in the oncoming election in August.
He also added that the United Democratic Party had set out cabinet positions for women and if elected would focus on realising the two thirds gender rule within the first year.
